What exactly is CBD oil?
First of all, it's important to briefly explain what CBD oil is. Because, you see, it's more complex than it looks!
It is a vegetable oil to which one or more molecules extracted from the hemp flower are added. Most often, the vegetable oil in question is hemp oil, i.e., made from hemp seeds. However, manufacturers can also use coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, and so on.
In any case, it's important to know that hemp oil, as is, without the addition of active molecules, contains no CBD. In fact, cannabinoids and terpenes (other important molecules) are produced exclusively in the flowers, in glands called trichomes.
Hemp oil also has some interesting properties, and is used in cosmetology in particular, but make no mistake, it's not a full-fledged CBD oil.
With that clarified, let's move on!
#1. Choose a CBD oil with hemp oil as carrier oil.
As we said earlier, CBD oil is first and foremost a vegetable oil to which molecules extracted from hemp are added. The first criterion is therefore to choose the vegetable oil used as a base.
We recommend choosing hemp oil rather than coconut or olive oil. There are several reasons for this:
- First of all, although most cannabinoids are synthesized in the flowers, some are produced in the seeds. These are, admittedly, minor cannabinoids, and are present in their acid form (CBDa, CBGa, etc.), but they still participate in the entourage effect. At least a little;
- Secondly, because it's an extremely nutrient-rich oil. It's a source of essential fatty acids (omega 3 and 6), proteins, vitamins, antioxidants and minerals;
- Finally, because hemp oil, unlike most vegetable oils, does not set at low temperatures. This makes it easier to store.
#2. An organic oil 🍃
Second choice criterion: choose CBD oil from organic farming. Firstly, it's good for the planet, and secondly, it reduces the risk of consuming substances potentially harmful to health.
Hemp is a hyper-accumulative plant, meaning it can absorb and concentrate elements found in the soil, including heavy metals and pesticides.
However, finding a CBD oil bearing the organic label is complicated. Indeed, even if hemp oil is organic, and even if the flowers from which the molecules are extracted are organically grown, this is not enough to obtain the organic label. But why? Because the status of CBD oil is still poorly defined by our beloved French authorities. The ingredients we use are organic, but our final product can't be 😅
To ensure that CBD oil contains no harmful substances, you can request the results of laboratory analyses.
✅ Bhat you need to know: at Nobilis, we use bioethanol to extract the cannabinoids and terpenes found in our oils. Bioethanol is a solvent of organic and biological origin.
#3. Choose a 100% French CBD oil 🇫🇷
We admit it, we're a bit chauvinistic. But it's not just to support the French industry that we advise you to buy CBD oil made in our beautiful country with flowers grown on French soil.
Indeed, if you're one of those people who like to source the products they buy, then this operation will be much easier if you opt for an oil produced in a French CBD laboratory from biomass grown in France. As we said earlier, it's difficult to obtain an organic label, but you can still check the origin of the flowers used, and therefore the method of cultivation employed!
Incidentally, for easier access to this type of information, we recommend buying directly from the manufacturer, or choosing a brand that makes its own products, as is our case.
In any case, there's another reason why we recommend you choose an oil made from flowers grown in France.
Flowers grown in Switzerland or Italy contain more than 0.3% THC. To pass through customs and be processed in France, they have to undergo a kind of washing, which is sometimes carried out with harmful solvents that can both leave traces and damage the plant's active molecules.
In short, made in France is synonymous with quality, whether you're a chauvinist or not!
#4. Choose a composition adapted to your needs 🧪
As you're no doubt aware, CBD oils are distinguished by their composition, among other things.
They can be classified into 3 families:
- Full spectrum CBD oils: these contain all the molecules synthesized in hemp flowers (cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids). They are considered to be the most effective, as they allow you to take advantage of the entourage effect;
- Broad spectrum CBD oils: contain all the hemp molecules except THC;
- CBD oils formulated with isolate: most of the time, they contain only CBD, but they can also be formulated with two or three cannabinoids. They generally target specific effects.
Our advice: if you want to stimulate your body in a holistic way, then opt for a full spectrum CBD oil, or even a broad spectrum, if you don't want to consume THC.
#5. Concentration for easy dosing 💧
CBD oil dosage is a tricky question, because there's no universal answer. It depends on a whole host of factors, including age, weight, symptom intensity and cannabinoid sensitivity.
In short, dosage varies from person to person, and each individual needs to find his or her own ideal dose. This is one of the reasons why it is generally advisable to start with a low dose and then gradually increase according to results.
To do this, it's a good idea to start with a low-dose CBD oil, between 5 and 10%, as this allows you to start with 3 drops 3 times a day.
If, after a week, you don't see the expected effects, then you can switch to 5 drops, then 8, then 10. And if you still don't see any effects, you can switch to a more concentrated oil, between 10 and 20%.
Oils containing more than 20% are reserved for people who have experience with cannabinoids and whose symptoms are particularly intense.
Please note, however, that it's important to seek medical advice, especially if you're on medication, as there may be a risk of drug interactions.
Choosing a quality CBD oil: what about the purchase price?
Now that you know the main criteria for buying a good quality CBD oil, it's time to talk price. And as in any industry, there's a bit of everything: some oils are extremely expensive, while others are on the cheap.
CBD oil price range
To give you an idea, a 10 ml full spectrum CBD oil with a 10% concentration sold for around 49 euros is expensive. Whereas a selling price of around 19 euros is considered very inexpensive. An average price is therefore around 25 to 35 euros.
Hemp cultivation, cannabinoid extraction and packaging cost money. Especially when these steps are carried out correctly: the flowers are organically grown, the cannabinoids are of natural origin, as are the terpenes, and the vegetable oil is organic hemp oil.
That's why we don't recommend buying a CBD oil priced well below the market average. Similarly, there's no reason why a CBD oil should be sold at a premium. It's all about finding the right balance.
Our advice: choose a brand you can trust. If they can demonstrate the quality of their products, then you know you're paying a fair price.
➡️ Things to remember when choosing your CBD oil
🍁 CBD oil is a vegetable oil enriched with hemp extracts (CBD, terpenes...), not to be confused with simple hemp oil.
🌱 Choose a hemp-based carrier oil, richer in nutrients and compatible with the entourage effect.
🍃 Opt for organically produced oil, extracted using safe processes such as bioethanol.
🇫🇷 Choose an oil made in France from locally-grown flowers: greater transparency, higher quality, less dubious processing.
🧪 Choose a composition to suit your needs:
➡️ Full spectrum (overall effect + entourage effect)
➡️ Broad spectrum (without THC)
➡️ Targeted formulation (CBD/CBN, CBD/CBG, etc.)
💧 S tart with a low concentration (5-10%) to test effects, then gradually increase if necessary.
💶 A quality oil has a fair price, usually between €25 and €35 for a 10ml bottle with 10% CBD.
🤝 Finally, turn to a brand that is transparent, French, and available to answer your questions... like Nobilis 😉
