What is CBN oil? [Guide 2025]
            October 1, 2024

What are the benefits of CBN oil?

            huie cbn nobilis product

CBN (cannabinol) is a molecule synthesized in very small quantities in hemp flowers (less than 1%). Nevertheless, its benefits are numerous and are attracting more and more people!

CBN oil is becoming just as popular as CBD oil. And you may be among those wondering whether it's right for you. To help you make up your mind, the Nobilis-Product team offers a brief overview of the main benefits of CBN oil.

            Table of contents

            What is CBN oil?

Before we talk about the benefits of CBN oil, let's briefly review what CBN oil is!

            Where does CBN come from?

Unlike CBD, which is synthesized during flowering, CBN is produced much later, when the flowers begin to oxidize. In fact, CBN is the result of THC degradation.

Don't worry, despite being closely related to a banned hallucinogenic molecule, CBN doesn't cause hallucinations of any kind, and it's totally legal.

            What does CBN oil contain?

As we mentioned earlier, CBN is produced in hemp flowers in very small quantities, and is known as a "minor cannabinoid". Its extraction is therefore complex and costly, which is why CBN oil is generally more expensive than CBD oil.

Interestingly, however, there are several ways of extracting this famous CBN. And this influences not only the oil's composition, but also, to a certain extent, its benefits and efficacy.

The most common technique is extraction in the form of CBN isolate. This is a pure form consisting solely of CBN crystals. While this may seem like an excellent way to enjoy the benefits of CBN, in reality it's not the most optimal.

In fact, a growing body of evidence suggests that hemp's molecules act synergistically. In fact, their properties complement and potentiate each other. This is known asthe "entourage effect".

This is why some manufacturers, like Nobilis-Product, prefer to use distillate rather than isolate. This is because distillate contains all the hemp molecules, namely cannabinoids and terpenes.

In short, most CBN oils are simple vegetable oils to which CBN crystals are added. However, somecontain real hemp extract, loaded with all the benefits of cannabinoids, including CBN.

Benefits of CBN oil: the 5 main properties of cannabinol

The benefits of CBN are still largely unexplored by the scientific community. However, like CBD, its action on the body is increasingly well understood. Indeed, it has been demonstrated that hemp molecules are able to bind to specific receptors present on certain key organs of our body.

This set of receptors is known as the "endocannabinoid system". Its main role is to maintain our body in a state of homeostasis, i.e., in a state of equilibrium, synonymous with good health.

The CBN benefits we'll be presenting in the next few lines stem directly from the very special affinity between hemp molecules and our bodies.

            😓 Stress and anxiety reduction

CBN is sometimes called "the sleeping cannabinoid" , as it is thought to be responsible for the drowsy effect produced by aged cannabis flowers. Remember, CBN is derived from the breakdown of THC.

The sedative properties of CBN have not yet been demonstrated in humans. However, feedback from cannabis users leaves little room for doubt! According to them, CBN-rich oxidized hemp flowers induce a deep state of relaxation, akin to a meditative state, capable of effectively combating stress and anxiety.

One study, however, looked at CBN's mechanism of action in an attempt to understand its sedative effect. The research team was able to identify its interaction with CB1-type receptors. These receptors (part of the endocannabinoid system) are mainly located in the brain and are linked to the synthesis of certain hormones, such as serotonin (aka the happy hormone).

So, while the benefits of CBN on stress and anxiety have yet to be studied, its sedative properties are on the way to being understood.

💤 Improve sleep quality with CBN oil

The potential benefits of CBN oil on stress and anxiety inevitably have a positive impact on sleep quality. Indeed, in most cases, insomnia and sleep disorders are the result of chronic stress.

However, the effects of CBN oil on sleep have been directly observed. Admittedly, not on human subjects, but on rats. Indeed, one study showed that CBN, administered at doses of 10, 30 and 100 mg/kg in rats, increased the proportion of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep and the duration of sleep cycles.

Scientific studies and research aside, it's worth bearing in mind that hundreds and hundreds of users report positive benefits from CBN oil. This applies to both stress levels and sleep quality.

The absence of scientific evidence should not be interpreted as a lack of efficacy. Quite simply, the majority of studies carried out on cannabis have focused on its two main components, CBD and THC.

            🧠 Neuroprotective effects of CBN

The main benefits of CBN oil are stress reduction and improved sleep quality. These are the two most common uses. However, some scientists are convinced that the therapeutic potential of CBN, along with CBD, is far greater than anyone imagined.

Among these scientists, a team from the Salk Institute, a non-profit research center, has been investigating the potential benefits of CBN on neurological health. According to their initial findings, they believe that "one day, CBN oil could be administered to soccer players the night before a big game, or to car accident victims as soon as they arrive at the hospital".

According to them, the benefits of CBN on neurological health are not in doubt; it's simply a question of understanding how it works, so that it can be safely and effectively integrated into modern medicine.

👌🏻 Pain-relieving properties of CBN oil

As you probably know, drugs that act on stress levels (anxiolytics and antidepressants) can also have a pain-relieving effect. This is because stress and pain are often linked via similar biological mechanisms.

Perhaps that's why a team of researchers has been investigating the possible pain-relieving properties of CBN. Their work has shown that CBN (like THC) activates certain pain-sensitive nerves (the same as those activated by capsaicin, the spicy compound in chillies).

They trigger the release of a molecule (CGRP) that dilates blood vessels. This mechanism could be involved in pain management. However, CBN's possible pain-relieving mechanism is unusual in that it does not involve the classic cannabis receptors (endocannabinoid system).

Of course, as always when it comes to cannabis molecules, further studies are needed before CBN oil can be used as a painkiller.

            🔥 Anti-inflammatory effects of CBN

Most cannabinoids have anti-inflammatory properties. This is true of CBD, but also of CBG (cannabigerol), another minor cannabinoid. And according to data collected by InMeds Pharmaceutical, the same is true of CBN .

As part of the development of a CBN-enriched cream designed to provide relief for people suffering from epidermolysis bullosa, a rare genetic disorder that makes the skin extremely fragile, the laboratory has carried out a phase 2 clinical trial. In other words, the cream in question was tested on human subjects.

The results showed a positive indication of improved anti-itch activity for the CBN cream compared to the control cream alone. The scientists also concluded that CBN is completely harmless, and causes no side effects.

Thus, CBN oil could be beneficial for people suffering from skin diseases. Caution is advised, however, and the advice of a dermatologist should always be sought.

💚 Other potential benefits of CBN oil

The properties of CBN have also been studied in research involving several cannabinoids in combination.

A study published in the prestigious journal Nature lists cannabinoids with anti-bacterial activity. Among the molecules cited is cannabinol. Researchers report that certain cannabinoids have powerful antibacterial activity against resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

However, the exact mechanism of this antibacterial activity remains to be understood.

Another study explores the effects of different cannabinoids on rat appetite. It shows that cannabinol (CBN) significantly increases food intake by stimulating appetitive behaviors via the CB1 receptor. In contrast, cannabidiol (CBD) reduces food intake, suggesting potential for anti-obesity treatments.

The researchers conclude that CBN could be an alternative to THC for appetite stimulation, as it has no psychotropic effects.

Finally, as you may know, CBD is used in the treatment of certain forms of epilepsy. However, there is some evidence that CBN (as well as THC) also has anticonvulsant properties.

How to make the most of CBN's benefits?

Now that you know more about the potential benefits of CBN oil, it would be interesting to know how to take advantage of them, wouldn't it? Here are a few buying and using tips.

            nobilis oil cbn and cbd

            Choosing a quality CBN oil

We can't say it enough: the quality of a product can make all the difference. If you're serious about enjoying the benefits of CBN oil, then don't compromise - choose a good quality oil!

But how do you know if a CBN oil is of good quality?

Unfortunately, as things stand, there are no official labels or certifications to guarantee the quality of a product formulated with hemp extracts. It's up to you to do the sourcing to find out where the ingredients come from and how the oil is made.

Let's face it, not everyone has the time (or inclination) to carry out tedious research... That's why we advise you to turn to a French brand like Nobilis-Product.

One phone call from you, and our sales team will provide you with all the documents you need. Easily check that our CBN oil is organically grown, made from hemp grown in France, and processed in a French laboratory using sophisticated, environmentally-friendly processes.

You can also consult our buying guide: How to choose CBN oil?

The importance of the entourage effect in optimizing the benefits of CBN

As we said at the beginning of this article, hemp's molecules act in synergy. This is known as the "entourage effect". This is why we advise you to avoid CBN oils made from isolate. They contain only CBN, no other cannabinoids and no terpenes.

Our CBN oil, on the other hand, is made from hemp distillate. The distillate is an extract containing all the plant's molecular baggage. It contains all the cannabinoids, as well as terpenes, which are odorous and gustatory substances whose role in the entourage effect is increasingly documented.

✅ The "Stress and Sleep" oil we offer for sale contains 10% CBN, 10% CBD, minor cannabinoids and terpenes. We've simply removed the THC.

It can be difficult to know the composition of a CBN oil. Indeed, few brands specify whether the product in question contains distillate or isolate. There are also a few cases of fraudulent CBN levels... To avoid any doubt, don't hesitate to ask for laboratory analysis results. These documents will provide you with clear, objective data on the oil's composition.

Taking the time to determine the right dosage

Once you've found the right CBN oil, the next step is to find out how to use it to reap all its benefits.

The question of dosage is a particularly complex one, since it varies from person to person according to the sensitivity of their endocannabinoid system. However, it is important to determine it, as cannabinoids are highly sensitive molecules which seem to work only when administered in the right quantities.

In other words, more CBN doesn't necessarily mean more effects. And just because Paul takes 10 drops a day doesn't mean it will work for Thibaut.

So how do you determine the right dosage for your CBN oil?

Well, there's only one solution: the empirical approach. Start with a small dose, around 0.5 mg CBN/kg body mass, and gradually increase every 3 to 4 days, until you achieve the desired effects.

Good to know: it' s the initial dose that determines the ideal CBN content of your oil. Not the other way around! In fact, if you weigh 70 kg, you should start with a dose of 35 mg CBN/day. In an oil containing 5% CBN, this is the equivalent of 14 drops. Which isn't necessarily very practical, and then you'll be out of the bottle in no time!

Our product development team chose to create a CBN oil with 20% active ingredients (10% CBD + 10% CBN). This concentration is suitable for most people, whatever their size or the intensity of their symptoms.

The right time to take your CBN oil

The best time of day to take your CBN oil depends on the desired effects. If you want to enjoy its sleep-inducing benefits, then we recommend taking a few drops about 1 hour before bedtime.

A good night's sleep can help combat stress, but if that's not enough, you can also take CBN oil first thing in the morning. If necessary, you can repeat the dose several times during the day.

            Opt for a holistic approach

Finally, one last piece of advice to make the most of the benefits of CBN oil: don't neglect the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Apart from powerful sleeping pills, nothing can improve the quality of your sleep if you don't adopt certain simple gestures such as avoiding screens after a certain hour, going to bed at regular times, not consuming caffeine in the evening, creating a comfortable bedroom, and so on.

🧬 CBN oil interacts with the endocannabinoid system, contributing to the body's equilibrium (homeostasis).

            💡 Its main benefits include:

😌 A sedative and relaxing action, ideal against stress and anxiety

💤 Improved sleep quality, according to numerous user feedbacks

🧠 Neuroprotective effects explored in preclinical research

💪 A potential painkiller, through mechanisms still under investigation

🔥 Anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, especially for cutaneous use

🌈 For optimum effectiveness, choose a full-spectrum CBN oil (distillate) rather than an isolate.

📏 Dosage is personal: start low, increase gradually, and adjust according to how you feel.

🌙 Remember to integrate your CBN oil into an overall lifestyle, conducive to relaxation and well-being.
