When choosing your CBD oil, many of you look for the organic label and/or the "made in France" label on the packaging. And you're right to do so, as these two criteria are the guarantee of a quality product. However, as you may have noticed, it's not always easy to find an organic, French CBD oil!
By the way, is there such a thing as 100% organic CBD oil? And is an oil made entirely in France possible, despite the many restrictions on CBD product manufacturers?
If you like to source your products properly before you buy, then stick with us. In this article, we untangle the real from the fake and explain how you can be 100% sure of the organic and French origin of your CBD oil.
As you no doubt know, all organic products are marked with the Eurofeuille logo (valid throughout Europe) and the AB logo, its French equivalent (optional).
Unfortunately, no matter how hard you look, you won't find any French CBD oil with the AB or Eurofeuille label.
The reason is "stupid and nasty": CBD is neither an authorized novel food, nor a medicine. In concrete terms, it cannot be assessed by certification bodies, as it is "out of category".
In fact, before manufacturers can claim an organic label, they must first wait for the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) to classify CBD as an authorized novel food. Then, they'll have to get their CBD oil approved. Then they can apply for an organic label.
We agree that approving CBD as a novel food is unnecessarily complex. Firstly, hemp, from which the molecule is derived, has been consumed since the dawn of time (well before 1997, according to the definition of a novel food). Secondly, CBD is already used in the composition of an authorized drug, Epidiolex.
But let's move on and get back to our CBD oils.
Fortunately, although access to labels is blocked, some manufacturers are developing their CBD oils in the most ecological and responsible way possible:
Ideally, a CBD oil sold as "organic" should meet all three criteria. However, most of the time, only the carrier vegetable oil is organically produced. This is either because of the cost of production, or because it is difficult to find 100% organic hemp extracts.
Indeed, most organic hemp farms specialize in the production of CBD flowers, not biomass for laboratory processing. What's more, most CBD laboratories use only supercritical CO2 to extract hemp components. This technique produces very high quality extracts, but they are not of plant origin, and therefore not organic.
In short, organic CBD oils do exist, but they're very rare!
Let's close the "bio" chapter and open the "made in France" chapter. There are plenty of reasons to choose CBD oils made in France, whether for ecological reasons, for quality, or simply to support the local industry.
Unfortunately, here again, you'll find that it's quite difficult for the CBD oil manufacturer to obtain certification.
First and foremost, the "Made In France" label does not guarantee that the entire product has been manufactured in France(sources). If you want to buy a CBD oil that has been entirely manufactured in France, then the "Origine France Garantie" label is the one to turn to.
But you should know that very few CBD oils have this label.
In France, CBD extraction has only been legal since January 2022. This means that before this date, the CBD contained in oils had to be of foreign origin. As a result :
Thus, the majority of CBD oils stamped "Fabriquée en France" are vegetable oils of French origin enriched with CBD extracted in Switzerland or elsewhere in Europe.
As we've seen, in the absence of labels, it's difficult to be sure that a CBD oil is really organically grown and/or of French origin.
However, at Nobilis-Product, we can provide you with certain guarantees. We are not resellers, we manufacture our own CBD oils. This means we have complete control over the entire manufacturing process of our products:
If you have any doubts about the origin of our CBD oils, we are available to discuss them and provide you with all the proof of traceability required.
