Sometimes, small crystals form in CBD oil. This is no problem at all, as it's the sign of a pure oil with a high concentration of cannabinoids. What's more, you can continue to consume it without any problem, simply by reheating it a little. But be careful, not just any old way, or you risk altering its quality!
Some vegetable oils, such as olive oil and coconut oil, set below a certain temperature. However, as you may know, this is not the case with hemp oil. So why does your CBD oil crystallize?
The little crystals you see are the cannabinoids in your oil, which have consolidated either because the oil has been stored in a place where the temperature is too cool, or because it has been sitting still for a very long time.
In any case, this phenomenon can only be observed in extremely concentrated CBD oils, in excess of 30%, and which do not contain stabilizing agents.
So, if your CBD oil crystallizes, rejoice, it means you've purchased a top-quality product! Now let's take a look at how to get your CBD oil back to a homogeneous state.
As we said earlier, to restore CBD oil to its normal consistency, all you need to do is heat it up a little. However, you need to proceed with caution, as cannabinoids can lose their properties above 70°C.
For this reason, we recommend using the water bath method, and checking the water temperature with a thermometer. Don't be in a hurry: it's better to leave the small vial of CBD oil in lukewarm water for several minutes than to subject it to heat shock.
As a reminder, the bain-marie technique:
Heat a little water in a saucepan (or use hot tap water if you don't have a thermometer);
Immerse the CBD oil vial in the water (make sure it's properly sealed!)
Wait until the oil regains its consistency.
You can also use a hair dryer, but the bain-marie technique is much more effective.
Crystallization of the cannabinoids in your oil is not a problem, but you'd probably prefer not to have to heat it up before each use!
All you need to do is store your CBD oil in a dry place , at room temperature and away from light. Under these conditions, your CBD oil should not crystallize and will retain all its virtues for longer.
