Is CBD really compatible with sports?
CBD is a non-psychoactive molecule that is totally legal and declared harmless to health by the WHO. Nevertheless, it is derived from cannabis... a plant not necessarily associated with the sporting lifestyle!
So, before discussing its possible benefits, let's clear up any possible doubts.
What about side effects?
As we said a few lines earlier, CBD is not harmful to health. However, like any substance, cannabidiol can indeed cause side effects such as:
- Drowsiness ;
- Dry mouth ;
- Diarrhea ;
- Decreased appetite ;
- Mood swings;
- Dizziness.
The intensity and manifestation of side effects depend on each individual and may vary over time. As a precautionary measure, it is therefore preferable to test the effects of CBD on your body several weeks before any major sporting event.
And if you're undergoing treatment or suffering from a particular condition, it's strongly recommended that you consult a doctor.
Is CBD allowed in sports competitions?
If you take part in sporting competitions, then your first concern may be whether the use of CBD products is legal. Rest assured, it is: cannabidiol (CBD) is authorized by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency). [1]
It's important to know, however, that CBD is the one and only cannabinoid not on the prohibition list. This means that the prohibition also applies to THC (of course), but also to non-psychotropic cannabinoids such as CBN and CBG. It is also specified that synthetic cannabinoids, and any molecule that mimics the effects of THC, are also prohibited.
If you want to consume CBD before a sporting event, it's possible, but you'll need to be careful about the product's composition. We've provided some advice at the end of this article.
The potential benefits of CBD for athletes
There are a plethora of supplements and superfoods available to help athletes improve their performance more quickly or sculpt their bodies more effectively.Â
The advantage of cannabidiol is that its effects are not solely focused on "sporting performance". Although the molecule is enjoyed by some top-level athletes, it is mainly a question of enhancing your training by improving your quality of life.
Balances the body
Cannabinoids such as cannabidiol act on our our endocannabinoid system whose main role is to maintain the body in a state of homeostasis synonymous with good healthand therefore better physical performance.
The endocannabinoid system is a set of receptors that regulate a number of key physiological functions. key physiological functions such as internal temperature, blood pH, blood pressure, glycemia, etc. These receptors are activated/inhibited by neuromodulators such as anandamide and 2-AG (= endocannabinoids), which are spontaneously synthesized by the body.
In some cases, endocannabinoid production is deficient, leading to an imbalance which can manifest itself in various ways (chronic fatigue, headaches, insomnia, etc.) affecting sporting performance, among other things.
Thus, taking CBD can promote internal balance and therefore a better predisposition to sporting activities.
Helps muscle recovery
As you know, whether it's to grow or to strengthen, the muscle needs a recovery period. And for optimum recovery, it's very important to rest and get a good night's sleep! In fact, it's during sleep that muscle anabolism. The process by which muscle fibres become stronger.
This is where cannabidiol can help, as it can help to improve sleep quality. It promotes relaxation (both mental and physical) by acting on the synthesis of a well-known hormone, serotoninwhich induces a state of serenity.
Taking cannabidiol thus promotes muscle anabolism, prevent injuries caused by fatigue and improve performance during training.
Anti-inflammatory properties
Practising a sport is generally accompanied by all kinds of pain: injuries, strains, aches, tears... In short, if we're not careful, we either end up resorting very often to opiates, which isn't ideal, or we simply stop hurting ourselves and put away the sneakers!Â
CBD can't completely replace traditional painkillers, however, in some cases its anti-inflammatory properties can be of great help. In fact, many professional athletes such as Bas Rutten and Nate Diaz (MMA), Andrew Talansky (cycling) and Tanner Hall (freestyle skiing) use CBD instead of opioid analgesics.
Cannabidiol acts on TRP-type receptors receptors in the epidermis, which are directly linked to pain messages. It may also modulate the inflammatory immune response and thus reduce inflammation.
Promotes concentration
As we have just seen, cannabidiol acts on the synthesis of serotonin, which induces a state of serenity. This is very useful for muscle recovery, and it's just as useful during a competition!
CBD has anxiolytic properties and can help people prone to stress to overcome their fears and perform at their best. In the context of a sporting competition, it promotes a state of serenity and therefore, concentrationis a major advantage, whether for better results or to avoid injury.
How to combine CBD and sports?
As you can see, cannabidiol can be a great ally, whatever your type of sport, your level and your objectives. All that remains is to find out how to incorporate it effectively into your sports routine!

As mentioned earlier, cannabidiol acts on our endocannabinoid system, which is made up of receptors distributed throughout the body. The number of receptors, and their sensitivity, is specific to each individual. For this reason, the dosage of CBD oil depends on each individual.
However, it is recommended to start with a low dose and gradually increase until you achieve the desired results. For example, you can start with our 5% CBD oil3 to 5 drops, 3 times a day. Bear in mind that the maximum dose is not exceed 1500 mg/day.
