Nearly one in two people in France suffers from joint pain caused by rheumatism. And unfortunately, to date there is no no cureonly palliative treatments based on various painkillers.
These drugs are not always effective in the long term, and in some cases they cause serious side effects. That's why more and more rheumatism sufferers are turning to natural solutions such as CBD oil.

What is rheumatism?
Rheumatism (aka osteoarticular disorders) is a generic name for all diseases of the diseases of the musculoskeletal system (bones, cartilage, muscles, tendons, ligaments).
Arthritis and osteoarthritis: the two forms of rheumatism
Rheumatism is classified into two categories:
- Inflammatory rheumatism (commonly called arthritis) such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis or psoriasis rheumatism. In these cases, the immune system is faulty (hyper-aroused), triggering an excessive inflammatory reaction that causes chronic pain. This is known as an autoimmune disease;
- Non-inflammatory rheumatism such as osteoarthritis or osteoporosis. Here, the immune system functions normally, but the problem lies with the joint (the cartilage no longer fulfils its role as a shock absorber), resulting in pain during exertion.

Treatments for rheumatism
Regardless of the type of rheumatism in question, the person will be prescribed pain medication such as anti-inflammatory NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin) and/or analgesics (paracetamol, opiates, etc.).
In the particular case of arthritis (polyarthritis and psoriasis), the patient will also be prescribed a background treatment based on immunosuppressive drugs designed to reduce the inflammatory response by weakening the immune system.
In both cases, these drugs are combined with non-medicated treatment including diet, physiotherapy, etc.
How can CBD combat rheumatism?
To understand why CBD (and cannabinoids) represent a serious lead in the search for a treatment for rheumatism, we first need to know what the endocannabinoid system is. the endocannabinoid system.
The endocannabinoid system is a set of receptors naturally present in all mammals whose common purpose is to maintain the state of homeostasis (= state of equilibrium) of the organism. As a result, endocannabinoid receptors regulate numerous key physiological processes such as the transmission of nervous messages, immune response and bone tissue synthesis.
Thus, taking CBD could regulate these mechanisms and stem the joint pain caused by rheumatism.
CBD to relieve joint pain (analgesic action)
Although we don't really know how, CBD is thought to inhibit the action of certain receptors in our brain responsible for the influx of nerve messages related to the sensation of pain, rather like traditional analgesics (opiates), without causing side effects or addiction.
In fact, an experiment conducted on rats [2] undergoing sciatic nerve surgery shows that CBD is capable of reduce the sensation of post-operative pain post-operative pain in the same way as morphine, without creating an addictive effect.
Thus, taking CBD could help relieve joint pain caused by rheumatism in a safe and natural way.
CBD to calm anxiety and sleep disorders
In addition to acting directly on the cause of the effects of stress (the overproduction of cortisol), CBD could also reduce the effects of two of the main disabling consequences of stress, namely anxiety and sleep disorders.
Indeed, as we mentioned earlier, CBD acts on our central nervous system, the seat of our emotions. As a result, taking CBD could have a relaxing effect, inducing a state conducive to concentration and intellectual performance during the vigilance phase, and a state of serenity conducive to quality sleep during the rest phases.
Several studies tend to demonstrate the effectiveness of CBD against anxiety and sleep disorders. One of them [3] involved 72 adults treated with CBD oil over several months. Within the first few weeks of treatment, 79.2% reported feeling less anxious, while 66.7% reported better quality sleep.
Of course, these results must be interpreted with caution, and it must be borne in mind that further proof is needed.
CBD's anti-inflammatory action against rheumatism
In addition to its analgesic properties, CBD, through its action on our immune system, is also said to have anti-inflammatory properties to reduce pain.
More specifically, in the case of arthritis, CBD could act at the very source of the problemsince this type of rheumatism is caused by an overexcited immune system and excessive inflammatory response.
Indeed, CBD has been shown to act on the immune system to regulate its activity [3]. It is said to have an immunosuppressive action which leads to a lasting reduction in the inflammatory response, apparently without weakening the immune system as some immunosuppressive drugs do.
Of course, further studies are needed to better to better understand the mechanisms involved. But CBD is nonetheless a serious candidate in the search for a treatment for rheumatism, and polyarthritis in particular.
In this regard, according to a study published in the journal Proceedings of The National Academy of Sciences (A. Malfait and R. Gallily) [4], oral or systemic administration of CBD helps to reduce disease progression in mice suffering from polyarthritis.
CBD to prevent osteoarticular disorders
As we've already mentioned, our bodies are home to numerous endocannabinoid receptors. And some of them are located on the surface of our bone tissueThis has naturally attracted the interest of the scientific community, which is working on a treatment for osteoarticular disorders!
With this in mind, two studies are worth noting:
- The first shows that CBD can prevent the reduction of bone formation, ie, the effects of osteoporosis [5] ;
- The second shows that CBD can stimulate the production of FFAs (long-chain fatty acids), which are themselves involved in the health of various bone tissues, including cartilage. the health of various bone tissues, including cartilage [6].
Further studies are of course necessary, as these were carried out on an animal model, and this does not mean that the same observations will be made on humans. However, this is an interesting avenue!
How to take CBD for rheumatism? Dosage
There are dozens of CBD-based products, but when it comes to treating joint pain associated with rheumatism, it's usually CBD oil oil.
In fact, it can be used both orally and orally as a topical application, directly (or mixed with cream) massage into painful joints.
Which CBD oil should I buy?
As you may have noticed, there's a whole range of commercially available CBD oils. There are:
- CBD oiloil, which contains only cannabidiol. It allows you to take advantage of CBD's anti-pain effects in a targeted way;
- Full spectrum CBD oilCBD oil contains all the molecules synthesized in hemp (all 150 cannabinoids, including -0.3% THC and terpenes). It is highly appreciated for its entourage effect;
- Broad spectrum CBD oilwhich also contains all the cannabinoids and terpenes except THC.
One is not necessarily better than the other; what counts above all is the quality of the oil. We recommend choosing an organic CBD oil made from hemp flowers grown in France, as is the case with Nobilis CBD oils.
On the subject of our oils, we've developed a CBD oil specially formulated to relieve joint pain caused by rheumatism. It combines the effects of CBD with those of CBG (cannabigerol), a cannabinoid known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Recommended dosage and frequency
As CBD products are not considered medicines, there is no official official dosage. For this reason, we recommend starting with a low-dose oil (between 5 and 10%) at a rate of 3 to 5 drops a day.
If no results are observed, increase the dose progressively (a few more drops every 5 days) until pain is relieved.
CBD is not harmful to your health and does not cause serious side effects, even at high doses (1500 mg), however, we advise you to seek the advice of your doctorespecially if you are undergoing treatment.
CBD and rheumatism: opinions and results obtained
Opinions on the effectiveness of CBD against rheumatism are mixed. Some people experience almost immediate relief, while for others, the effects are moderate.
There are several reasons for this. First of all, you need to know that the degree of development endocannabinoid system differs from one individual to another. This means that some people are more sensitive to the effects of CBD than others. Results may also depend on the stage and cause of the diseasenot to mention the fact that a healthy lifestyle also plays a key role in improving symptoms.
In short, to find out if CBD can help relieve your joint pain, you need to test it out.
